Mushroom In My Heart For You/Tasty Thursdays

Tasty Thursdays

This is a basic pan-fried beef burger.
Sauted onions and mushrooms make it a Special if you work in a restaurant.
Once Upon a time, in a far, far away time, there was Griff's Burger Bar.
Story for another day.
And the thing that can make the Special even better is this.
Just one slice of this goodness will make it melt in your mouth.

Taste-O-Vision needed.
Happy Thursday!

Then There's This /Tasty Thursday

Tasty Thursday

Breakfast one day last week apparently was pretty good when Ron sent me a photo of it before finishing it off.
Gluten Free Cinnamon Raisin Bread conformed to French Toast last week. This is before syrup and butter were added. But guess what. It's not French.

What I'd like to do is share a list of French Cuisine I'd like to make in the future.
Here's a beginning list.

Crème brûlée
Éclair(These first 2 speak on their own)
Macaron (not to be confused with Macaroon)
Ratatouille (I hope you know what this is)
Hachis Parmentier (French Shepherds Pie)
Gigot D Agneau Pleureur
(translation: Lamb cooked over potatoes)
Tartiflette (Potatoes, bacon, melted cheese, onion. Enough said)
Quiche Lorraine (the French like bacon)
For the record, we've already made Cordon Bleu. No pictures. sorry.

Humpty Dumpty/ Tasty Thursday

We had a little bout of cold weather this week in Central Missouri.

So to keep from getting cabin fever (Cabin being a C word),

We proceeded to avoid this listlessness by keeping busy with various activities.

There was Art for Letter A.

Bead Stringing and Balance Beams made from masking tape since we have all ages and stages in my home.
Our Feat of the Week was
"C"ooking Cabbage soup.
What on earth would possess someone to make Cabbage soup with a group of very young children you may ask?
It began with reciting a nursery rhyme,
"Humpty Dumpty".
During the course of our conversation,
Ben, age 3 tells me that Humpty Dumpty ate Cabbage Soup.
I don't know where that came from but I went with his information and ran with it.
We got out my trusty phone and looked up images of cabbage soup online.
I asked him if he would like to make some soup and he insisted that it needed to be this
Cabbage variety.
And so it began.

Ben is the Sprinkler kind.

Macoy mastered the Scoop.
Lindley must cook a lot as she is peeking into the pot and arranging it :)
Signs of a future chef I'm absolutely sure!
My favorite picture is of Hudson who is unable to wait for my help.
I really didn't have much spillage believe it or not.
And the question everyone is asking.
Did they eat it?
Here are the results:

Macoy, age 4,  ate 2 bowls.
Ben of the Humpty Dumpty statement drank his broth.....two bowls full. He's 3 1/2 respectively.
Lindley and Hudson, both age 2, ate some but the jury is still out on their opinions.
They really liked the polish sausage addition the most.
After all, you can dip them in ketchup.
And, yes, we served ketchup on the side.
That is a topic to be saved for another Tasty Thursday though.

Aroma / Tasty Thursday

I wanted to use Aroma Tools on my blog title, but I guess that's a Company that specializes in aroma therapy items. Who knew? I certainly didn't, but glad I googled it. Good ol' Google.
But since I've already committed to the Aroma title on this Tasty Thursday,
the spices above were used in a recent recipe for some Old Fashioned Comfort Food.
Mixed by tablespoons since we had quite a batch to cook up, this is probably about a cup worth of spices you are seeing here.
Ron has the temperature just about ready to go.
And here are a couple of pieces of Dinnertime Contentment.
Fried Chicken.
Gluten Free for my hubster and daughter.

And apparently arriving home from work to this sight and scent was too much to of a temptation.
Someone had to finish the 'test' piece and make sure it was safe for consumption.
And yes,
We're Still Here.
Happy Thursday ya'll!

Everybody Has 'Em/ Tasty Thursday

So you have to get to the grocery store, the bank, the post office and fill up the tank in your car..... all in the same evening....and in less than 2 hours. Why? because you really want to eat supper at a decent hour.

On this Tasty Thursday we're coming to the rescue for those gluten intolerant individuals.
Enter the following products.

For your entrée, this is one of our go-to's for a very tasty hot meal in a hurry.
Udi's, you have done well with this one. I think my own mother would even eat this.
And that says a Lot!
For a little extra on the side there are Red Robin fries to go with the sauce I gave you the recipe for.
And again, gluten free.

A great find for us from a grocery store chain in Kansas City (1 1/2 hour drive one way for us) is the egg noodles by Jovial. Every bit as good as home made. My family never leaves leftovers of these.
Especially when cooked in our homemade beef broth, these would stand up to any regular glutinous brand. I'd hang my hat on that statement. (did I mention they don't have to be frozen?)

They come in little nests and allow you to cook them in a shallow amount of liquid as we have here in this skillet. Pretty cool cookin'. (Not really, they are best served hot)
And the best part is,
I did get to bed on time.

Old Faithful/ Tasty Thursday

This kitchen gadget is an oldie, but a goodie.
It's my Microwave Potato Bag circa 2010.
In other words it's 5 years old (at least)
I have nicknamed it "Old Faithful"
On nights with little or no time for cooking a lengthy meal, which is often on Tasty Thursday,
this old standby has helped me bring together a great meal with little effort.
With a little Chicken from the Deli Section

And some Nacho Cheese (there's also some butter under all that cheese)

For the beverage, some of us prefer a quieter drink than others,
but I must say that this Ciderboys drink was not too shabby.
It's a gluten free hard cider that my daughter picked out.
For more Microwave Potato Bags,
check out some I have listed on Etsy.
They even have their own section!

After All, Tomorrow is Another Day/ Tasty Thursday

A perfect bundle of flowers from a perfect little girl!
This was my birthday greeting on Friday.
I certainly felt a little better about turning a year older with such a lovely bouquet.
Thank you Miss Emmi and family!

Continuing on with the trend for beautiful things, my sister made a very thoughtful choice when she picked this gem up at the Warsaw Heritage Days. The crème de la crème of craft shows in the state of Missouri. I didn't attend this year, but maybe I would have discovered what sister was up to if I had?? Everything works out the way it should!

A trip to some local Antique shops was my choice for birthday shopping. I lucked into a bargain on vintage flour sack fabric at a favorite haunt of ours, Chelsea's.
Can't find this at Walmart.
But my favorite find was this 1932 children's cookbook. It claims to "Teach children to cook successfully.
Take a look inside!
Here's the table of contents. Such cute recipe titles. It even shows a proper table setting!
With a bouquet of flowers naturally :)

My question to you is, What is this ingredient spelled "fladousing"???
Effie Jean Carter, I wonder if you're still out there to translate?
I have a feeling this mystery will go unsolved on this Tasty Thursday.

The Art of the Note Tuck/ Tasty Thursday

I was beeboppin' along last weekend stuffing pickles in jars from our garden.........
I'm not known for a prettily packed jar of pickles just for the record.

Had them in the boiling water bath to seal up........

They did turn out pretty after all.

Sweet Pickles. Ready to eat in 4 to 6 weeks.

And in the midst of all that canning, I found a little gem of a note, tucked away for a future smile.
Translation: "I believe in you Santa, but my friend Dunken does not."
Dunken, you are pretty well on the Coal list for Christmas.
Sorry guy!
Dedicating this Tasty Thursday to my youngest daughter :)

G-Free Chinese

Peanut, milk, wheat, eggs

Wheat_flour : Ears of wheat and ribbons on white eggs in an egg carton on a white background Stock Photo - 9889089

There are 8 common food allergens. A lesson learned after having to repeatedly read food labels this year. Here are 4. Our special thanks to Nicole Hunn
for her fabulous website. Our Friday night meal at home instead of eating out was a true delight.

I have had to deal with all these food allergies this past year for either one of my daycare children or for my own daughter.
I totally understand the ache in the hearts of mothers everywhere who can't allow their child the simple joy of a quick fast food item for fear of a 'reaction' that could possible land them in the ER.
That being said,
You cannot imagine the pride I had last night when my daughter fixed us a meal she ordinarily can't have when eating out.
Egg rolls were the main course and to the right is the de-lish filling.

We loved the rice lo mein noodles!

Our sauce of choice, rather than your typical sweet and sour variety, is the one pictured.
Pronounced My-Poy.
It and a side salad were the perfect addition to our meal.
Thank you Rachel and yes, g-free can rock!

Another Class Project

Kirsten's latest extra point project was to make a recipe from Bangladesh. So-o-o-o-o we searched
for quite awhile to find something that we could find all the ingredients for, that was simple, & that she liked.
So with these criteria, we settled on Gulab Jamun. We Americanized it a tad bit though. I didn't find Saffron
in our local grocery store & it's my understanding that it is the world's most expensive spice. So we left it & Cardamom out of the syrup. Sorry but sometimes, ya gotta do what ya gotta do.

Dissolving the sugar & water to make the syrup.

At first we had our oil too hot. Didn't take long for that to happen. Our temp was almost to 'flash' level.
oops

This poor attempt shows that pretty well I think.

Here's how they start out. We have one of the plates covered
with a damp paper towel to keep them moist.

You'll never guess the main ingredient in these. You may take
this moment to ponder before I give you the answer.

We're cookin'
now!!!!

May I present to you Kirsten's almost famous
Gulab Jamun about to be submerged in syrup.
And for that secret main ingredient,
It's powdered milk.
And as for the taste, they are very much like
a pancake. Pretty darn good even if I do say so myself.
