Making Tuesday Tolerable

In your easter bonnet, with all the frills upon it,
You'll be the grandest lady in the easter parade.
I'll be all in clover and when they look you over,
I'll be the proudest fellow in the easter parade.
On the avenue, fifth avenue, the photographers will snap us,
And you'll find that you're in the rotogravure.
Oh, I could write a sonnet about your easter bonnet,
And of the girl I'm taking to the easter parade.
                                           Irving Berlin/ Easter Parade

After a pretty windy evening here in Missouri (I'm talking tornado warnings all over the place including one here), I thought it would be the appropriate time to share a recent accomplishment. After all, a hat for covering those ears in this wind is a must when you are under a year old.
An old high school friend was looking for someone to make her granddaughter a hat. I tried out the pattern and took 7 rows off before coming up with the right size she'd be needing. Confucious say: Be cautious of free patterns. This is just my personal experience talking.
After some contemplating, the Daisies were picked as her preference over roses and I'm so glad she chose them. They are so gosh darn cute!!
These lil' sisters helped me figure out the size. The top model is 2 1/2. The infant is 3 months. Between the 2 we got the size just right.
Just in time for Easter!!

Hope these  little rays of sunshine have made your Tuesday more Tolerable!

The Waiting Is The Hardest Part/ Tasty Thursday

Yesterday, I jumped the gun and posted a preview on Facebook of our Cooking with Kids activity for the week. Couldn't help myself.
They have such a good time. Even if it were real mud, they'd have just as much fun.
But it was not real mud.
We made a 'pie' together.

We even adapted the recipe to create our own Gluten Free version.
The recipe only calls for 1/3 cup of flour so it was pretty easy to use the g-free equivalent.

It's really a glorified brownie with fudge topping instead of an icing. We also chose to use non-dairy whipped topping from the freezer section due to the price of whipping cream. Have you seen the cost of a pint of that stuff lately?? Oh. My. Goodness!!
The freezer variety was on sale for 88 cents.
No homemade whipped topping today little dearies. Sorry.
Honestly, the waiting is the hardest part.

The Prelude/ Tasty Thursday

Little did you know that my last blog post was foreshadowing our latest adventure.
Lidia's
Tasty Thursday this week is a peek at our family dining experience at Lidia's Italy Kansas City.
They have a nice selection of Gluten free items for our 1/2 of the household who have intolerance for Wheat, Barley and Rye.
Polipo
Grilled Octopus with Warm Potatoes, Caper, Red Onion, Gaeta Olives GF
Our appetizer was shared with 3 of the 4 of us. Not everyone wanted to try this unfamiliar seafood. When you live in the farmbelt, it's hard to warm up to this type of option. No mozzarella cheese sticks available here. Time to insert here that I did try it. Yay me :)
 Risotto
with Rock Shrimps, Asparagus, Peas, Favas
This was my meal choice. I've watched Lidia's PBS episode where she makes Risotto. Could. not. resist.
The shrimp were abundant and I truly enjoyed every single bite. I wanted to share a taste with everyone but it was not safe for that 1/2 that I mentioned before. We have a cookbook of Lidia's and I do believe I will try making a variety that everyone can eat sometime soon.
This was a gorgeous restaurant with doors open behind me letting in fresh air. Loved the atmosphere! This dinner was a wonderful way to prelude the concert at The Midland to see Kacey Musgrave.
